Barry Rowlingson has worked at
Lancaster University on the integration of spatial statistics and GIS
since 1990. He is involved with a WHO-funded project on disease
mapping in Africa which he presented at the FOSS4G 2007 conference in
Canada. His contributions to open-source include packages for the R
statistical software system and plugins for Quantum GIS. One idle day
he mapped part of Lancaster for OpenStreetMap.
Jason Jorgenson is a PhD student
at the University of Liverpool, and uses GIS to help reconstruct
how ancient settlements may have utilized their landscapes. He is
a keen advocate of Free Open Source Software, and has licensed his
software, LandUse Analyst, as FOSS. He has been a constant
presence (pain might be another good word?) in the open source GIS
community for about three years.
Jo Cook is a Senior IT Support and Development Officer for
OA Digital, working in their Lancaster office. She undertakes
IT support and applications development, GIS, database, and web-based,
and helps to manage small and large-scale GIS projects. She is actively
involved in promoting the company's move towards a more open
philosophy - open access to data, open standards, and open source
software, helping to develop the workflows and protocols that make
this process happen. Her main interest is in making GIS software and
data available to people, to make their work easier and more enjoyable.
Carson Farmer is a PhD fellow
with the National Centre for Geocomputation at the National
University of Ireland, Maynooth. His research interests include spatial econometrics,
spatial-temporal data management and analysis (including spatial
time-series data), as well as issues specifically relating to spatial
and temporal scale.
