Who?
Barry Stephen Rowlingson. Born in Enfield, North
London. Currently Computer Officer and Researcher on Spatial Statistics in
the Maths and Stats department, Lancaster University.
Where?
I live in a nice little end-terrace house in Lancaster.
Check out the bathroom.
When?
This was the *first* homepage at Lancaster University, and it ran on
the *first* web server on campus too. Thanks to Nick Tate for showing
me XMosaic at UEA in 1993 or thereabouts. For nostalgic reasons this
page will contain no <frames> or javascript or other nonsense. Retro-html rules!
Why?
I am employed on two separate things:
- Statistics Research on various projects.
- Computer Officer for the Department.
There's some info on Software and Other Projects where you may find
useful packages such as Splancs and Rmap.
Whoopee!
- Playing
bass - four strings, and a lot
lower than a guitar...
There's some information on Monkey Bucket, probably the funniest satirical
rock band that ever played at Gradstock in 2001.
- Playing guitar, keyboards, harmonica, and recording
I have a bit of a studio set up at home - a four track, effects box,
mikes, guitars, keyboards, synths and a PC running Cubase to
sequence it. One day I'll be a famous producer.... Until then,
check out my list of projects.
- Video.
I bought a video camera for my sea otter trip and spent months editing it into a film.
It was so much fun I cant stop. I've made pop videos for some local bands and a short film
from footage of my Australia trip. If anyone wants to see my showreel, just ask!
- Travelling.
Check out my Morocco Expedition web
pages. For August 2000 I travelled overland to Morocco with Sam
and Abigail. Great fun.
- Cycling.
Either fighting with the cars and lorries on the A6 to
get to and from work every day, or fighting with rocks and
boulders and mud off road. Or a pleasant cycle through country
lanes, of course! Want to see some pics?
In April 1998 I managed to fall off and trash my elbow whilst
cycling home. Read All About It!
I like repairing and fixing bikes, so if you have any jobs need
doing, let me know!
- Soccer
The maths dept plays a lot of football, either five a side
on the hard court, or six and eleven a side games on the Astro
turf.
- Walking and Hiking
Stick my boots on, pack my waterproof and butties, and I'm
off. Favourite hill is Clougha Pike, just outside the
University. Great for a Sunday afternoon stroll or jog, lots of
crag and rock for scrambling, mud for sloshing in, a summit to
revel on! Great views of the Lakes, Morecambe Bay, Forest of
Bowland. The Lakes, Scotland,
Wales, Dales and Peak district all have happy walking memories for
me too.
- Kite flying
I have a couple of kites - one a foldaway thing that
fits easily in a rucksack, the other a twin-line stunt
kite. I got these after hearing that the best way to stay healthy
and young at heart was to keep doing those things you did as a
child. I bought some kites. I've got an Aerobie Orbiter Boomerang
too, for days with no wind.
- Photography
I've scanned some of my best shots. Go Check 'Em Out!
- Vegetarian food
No meat for me please! Get down to Single
Step Co-Op on Penny Street and get some of their organic wholemeal
bread! Yum. Or get fed at
The Whale Tail Cafe above the shop.
- Animals
My little menagerie now has its
own web site!
Of course the greatest cutest animals in the world are
real live Sea Otters.
The
World Wide Baz
Directory lists Bazzes all over the planet.
