UK Extremes Meeting 2008
Dates: 23rd-24th
September
Venue: Postgraduate Statistics
Centre
Welcome to the home page for the UK Extremes Meeting 2008, to be
hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster
University and held in the newly built Postgraduate
Statistics Centre. This is an informal meeting where researchers
from a range of fields gather to present and discuss the statistical
application of Extreme Value Theory. For this meeting we will be
joined by Anthony
Davison from Ecole Poytechnique Federale de Lausanne.
Provisional
schedule now published
A provisional list of times, speakers and (where available)
presentation titles is now available here. This may
still be subject to some changes. There is still time to add your name
to the list of speakers - the final deadline for this is 11th
September. For attendence at the meeting the deadline is 18th
September - this is so we can organise catering. You will still be
welcome if you have not let us know by then, but we may not be able to
provide you with food!
Agenda
Our outline plan for the meeting is to start with lunch on the first
day and to work our way through to lunch on the second day, giving
people plenty of time to arrive and depart. Lunch will be provided on
both days, as will tea and coffee (and perhaps even biscuits...). On
the evening of the first day we hope to go out for a meal as a group.
Transport
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is located on B floor, in
Fylde College just off the central spine on the main part of
campus. Click on the link to the campus map below; Fylde is building
41 and the Postgraduate Statistics Centre is building 41a.

Access to campus from the railway station is easy. The best bus to use
is the X1 since this leaves directly
from the railway station. Otherwise, a number of other buses leave
from the bus station in the centre of town. You need to get off the
bus at the university underpass. From here you will ascend into
Alexandra Square. To get to Fylde College from here, take the path
between Waterstones and the travel shop. Keep walking south and you
will eventually come across signs for the Department on your left.
Accommodation
For those of you who will need somewhere to stay, the university has a
number of guest rooms. Details of how to book one of these can be
found here.
Alternatively, a list of Bed and Breakfasts can be found here.
