NATCOR - A National Taught Course Centre in Operational Research

What is NATCOR?

NATCOR is a collaboration between six universities to develop and deliver taught courses in Operational Research (OR) to PhD students. The initiative to develop such taught course provision came from the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). It is part of a drive to deepen and broaden PhD studies in the UK across the mathematical sciences. NATCOR is funded by EPSRC for the first five years of its life (October 2006 to September 2011) and is supported by the Operational Research Society which is a collaborating partner.

NATCOR's programme will comprise five blocks of content, each of which has as its focus a one week (Monday to Friday) residential course. These five courses will be delivered over a two year cycle (with three in 2007/8 and two in 2008/9) and are mainly intended for PhD students in their first two years of doctoral study. We anticipate that our provision will be of interest to all doctoral students who wish to have a greater knowledge of the underlying theory and application of OR technologies. Further, our courses give students in other areas of mathematics an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of direct industrial relevance.

NATCOR has resources to support attendance at its courses by students whose doctoral work is supported by EPSRC. There will be a modest charge for non EPSRC students to cover accommodation. All participants will pay a small registration fee.
