Lancaster - Warwick - Stirling Node: Developing Statistical Modelling in the Social Sciences
The National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) consists of a coordinating Hub at the University of Southampton and seven Nodes around the UK, of which the Lancaster-Warwick-Stirling node is one. The primary aim of the NCRM is to raise the methodological skills base of UK social scientists through a combination of innovative methodological research programmes and training events. Our node focuses on quantitative methods and statistical modelling, linking to specific substantive problems in the social sciences. There have been two phases to the research and training programme. The first phase covered the period April 2005 to September 2008; the second phase continues the grant until March 2011.
Our research
Our research programme across the three universities focuses on the development of efficient and appropriate statistical models for complex longitudinal social science data. It is addressing topical problems in three different disciplines – criminology, sociology and psychology, each of which is concerned with the analysis of longitudinal data involving social of developmental change and addressing methodological and computational issues related to these problems. The research pages give further details and detailed information can be obtained from our publications and conference presentations .
Our training courses and workshops
The Lancaster Warwick-Stirling node has a strong training role and we are delivering a suite of short courses , workshops and materials to train researchers in statistical and software skills. Some courses are introductory; others will be related to our research programme.
