Statistics
Statistics at Lancaster is a large and vibrant research community. Much of our research has a strong applied emphasis with research typically being focused at the interface between methodology and applications. We are one of the UK's leading groups in statistics. The impact of our research can be seen by the group having 5 RSS read papers and one JASA discussion paper since 2001. We are a prolific research group and our papers can be found in internationally leading statistical theory and methods journals such as JRSSB, JASA, Biometrika and Annals of Statistics. (Details)
Our research has three distinctive but complementary strengths: the development of advanced probabilistic and statistical theory; a well-defined methodological focus based upon statistical modelling; and extensive collaborative links with colleagues throughout the university and researchers elsewhere.
Although we are a cohesive and contiguous research group, we do have the a number of distinct (though overlapping) research groups, most of which have their own research activities (such as reading groups, specialised seminar series, etc). The research described spans both this department, the Department of Medicine, and Management Science.
