PhD in Medical Statistics
The Medical Statistics Section of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics is dedicated to research into methodology for medical research, to the education of medical statisticians and to the teaching of quantitative methods to medical specialists.
Our main areas of research and expertise include statistical methods for the design and analysis of clinical trials, the interpretation of complex neurological data, the modelling of processes of zoonosis, the interpretation of epidemiological data collected over time and space and the analysis of genomic data. Such work involves the application and extension of both frequentist and Bayesian methods and often of computer intensive approaches. Our PhD programme runs for 3 years however, for students from outside of the UK who do not already possess a UK MSc we offer a four year Integrated PhD programme of study.
The beautiful Lancaster University campus is situated on the outskirts of the historic city of Lancaster. Our location provides students with easy access to the idyllic Lake District as well as the lively student-friendly cities of Manchester and Liverpool. As a PhD student you will be encouraged to attend conferences and will be provided with a laptop computer for the duration of your study.
