How to Apply

Entry requirements

PhD Pure Mathematics
Applicants should have a good honours degree including a substantial component of mathematics.
PhD Statistics
Applicants should have a good honours degree including a substantial component of mathematics and some statistics.

Application form and contact details

Applicants need to complete a standard Postgraduate Admission form. These are downloadable from the web or can be requested from the postgraduate administrator. The form should be returned to:

Postgraduate Admissions
Faculty of Science and Technology
Lancaster University
LANCASTER
LA1 4YR
It is also possible to apply online.

At the same time, applicants should ask two referees to complete testimonials (standard forms will be sent with the application form) and return them directly to:

 Postgraduate Administrator (Jane Hall)
 Department of Mathematics and Statistics
 Lancaster University
 Lancaster
 LA1 4YF

Through e-mail discussions, or a visit to the department (which the department is willing to fund from within the UK), we then negotiate with suitably qualified applicants. For suitably qualified PhD applicants, we will agree potential supervisors and projects. A formal offer of acceptance will be made by Postgraduate Admissions, not the department.

Please contact the postgraduate tutor, Kanchan Mukherjee, for further information.
