Teaching and Learning Resources

There are many resources provided free of charge on the internet that are of use to statisticians, both for those studying the field and those teaching. Below we present some of those which we can recommend.

Teaching Seminars

We hold regular teaching and learning seminars, many of them containing useful links to resources or details of new teaching methodology. See below for details.

Online Texts, Notes and Courses

A selection of free to follow courses based on our short courses programme. Including SPSS and Generalised Linear Models. Registration required.

A four part introduction to statistics suitable for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

An online tutorial with 18 lessons covering basic topics.

CAST stands for Computer-Assisted Statistics Teaching and contains several different textbooks that teach statistical methods. They all take a data-focused approach to the subject and use minimal mathematics.

The Royal Statistical Society is an international membership organisation with members in over 50 countries worldwide.They promote public understanding of statistics and provide professional support to users of statistics and statisticians

The Professional Development Centre provides courses for statisticians and users of statistics. They offer courses in statistical, consultancy and management training; open courses across the UK and overseas; bespoke courses; and training needs analysis.

The Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education aims To promote the improvement of statistical education, training and understanding at all ages. They offer a Certificate in Teaching Statistics in Higher Education by distance-learning designed for those who are teaching or are about to teach statistics in higher education, and offer Professional Development programmes as well as resources for personal development.
