Statistics Consultancy Service

magnifying glass

We offer a FREE consultancy service for all postgraduate research students and members of staff.

Please e-mail your query from your Lancaster University email account to

advice@stats.lancs.ac.uk

and the service will reply and arrange a meeting as required. Please give a short description of the problem you face, so that we may find an expert in the appropriate statistics area. At the end of the consultation we ask you to complete a brief satisfaction questionnaire. Please use your Lancaster University email account as other emails are rejected because of security worries.

When the level of specialist advice required is high and the methods are novel we consider developing the consulting request into a joint grant application or a joint publication. We sometimes enrol our Statistics Phd students into the consultation process to give them experience.

If you are an MSc project student you need your request to be sent from your supervisor.

Many MSc students have the opportunity to take modules in statistics as part of their course; for example Biol421 and Psych401/402. There are also a number of introductory short courses provided by the Applied Statistics Unit We are happy to help students who have already availed themselves of these opportunities and need advice on more advanced statistical methods, provided that their supervisor is present at any consultancy session. Students who have not taken up existing course opportunities will not be entitled to help from the statistical consultancy service.
