Postgraduate life

Being part of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Students are strongly encouraged to make the department their working base. Academic staff, research staff and research students will all be pleased to give informal statistical advice when asked. Computing and (modest) library facilities are available within the department. Morning coffee each day provides a valuable opportunity to meet and interact socially with members of the department.

Department facilities

Students have their own space in the Postgraduate Statistics Centre and access to the university computer network for their own laptops. Public computer rooms and shared printers are also provided.

Seminar series

Statistics seminars and forums, which are one-off lectures on recent statistical research by internal or visiting speakers, are held regularly during term-time.

Our postgraduates also run a series of postgraduate forums which are off-limits to staff and provide a relaxed atmosphere to discuss ideas.

Social life!

Social activities form an important part of life as a member of the Department. A number of groups organise Department sporting activities, including regular football, running and badminton sessions. Students will be members of the Graduate College, which has a Graduate Bar and runs a number of social activities.
