Details of fees are available from the student registry
Is there an application fee?
No.
Is there a deadline for applications?
Applications arriving by the end of August will usually be processed, however if an application is received after mid-August it may be difficult to obtain accommodation on campus, and available funding will probably have been allocated.
English is not my first language – do I need to take an English Language test such as TOEFL or IELTS?
Yes, ideally before you apply, but if you are in the process of taking this you will need to supply evidence. The test certificate should be sent to Postgraduate Admissions.
  • The TOEFL test requires a score of 580 minimum.
  • The IELTS test requires a score of 6.5 minimum.
  • The Cambridge Proficiency test requires a grade of A-C.

Applicants who fail to achieve the required test scores may be eligible for an intensive English course in Lancaster in the summer.

How long will it take for my application to be considered and a decision made?
Once all the necessary paperwork has been received the Faculty Admissions Officer will usually make a recommendation within a few days. You will receive an email informing you that the offer letter from Admissions is available on the online application system.
Do you have any scholarships or bursaries for which I could apply?
A few studentships are available for EU/UK applicants, if you wish to be considered for these please indicate this on your application form, under funding. Some general information is available from the University student support office
Can I register for the Postgraduate Certificate in the first instance and later upgrade to a Diploma or MSc?
Yes, this is possible. You would study a combination of courses approved for the Certificate (60 credits) in your first year. If you do well at these you can upgrade to the MSc or Diploma in the following year.
How is the course assessed?
The taught courses are assessed mainly by coursework assignments. Also there is a dissertation for the MSc.
How long does a MSc usually take to complete?
12 months full-time, but can take between 2 and 5 years part-time.
If I am offered a place can it be deferred until the following year?
Yes, usually. But funding cannot be deferred.
What resources are available on the web?
You can see various information about the currently running courses here
How do I find out about accommodation?
Once you have firmly accepted an offer of a place on the course, full details will be sent to you. There is some information here
