Leslie Humphreys (centre for applied statistics, research staff)
I am a quantitative criminologist with specific interests in criminal careers, criminal deception, and criminal sentencing. As well as my own research interests I am currently part of the National Centre for Research Methods (on the Lancaster-Warwick-Sterling node) and I will soon start on an ESRC funded projects "Tracking Vulnerability and Resilience: Gambling Careers in the Criminal Justice System". Previous projects include a Home Office funded study that used official crime data to produce measure of offence seriousness and frequency; a Home Office project (related to the latter) that developed a new tool for the prediction of reconviction; a Northern Ireland Office study on official reconviction; and a scoping study for the Equalities and Human Rights Commission that reviewed equality statistics. I teach on a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I convene a core course (Measuring Crime) on the Criminology undergraduate degree at Lancaster University. My postgraduate teaching and training is mainly concerend with teaching quantitative methods to social scientists. In addition, I run a course on Atlas.ti - a piece of software for managing and analysing qualitiative data
